The Fire Services Agency's Office of Emergency Services has announced the move of its offices to the new Emergency Operations Center at 1605 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way as of August 20, 1999. All phone numbers remain the same as before. Our installation program for the RACES Radio Room will begin shortly.
At our September meeting, we will discuss our involvement in the Earthquake Preparedness Fair on October 16, the Simulated Emergency Test (SET) and a schedule for setting up RACES communications for the OPD. Also, KTOP has provided us with a video tape of the program OES Issues, aired in June, in which K6JAT is interviewed about RACES' role in community preparedness.
Are you prepared for a Red Flag fire patrol activation?
In an attempt to reduce mailing costs in excess of our budget due to a large ARES mailing (See the ORCA board minutes for details), the ORCA board is investigating e-mail distribution. We currently mail monthly fliers to an ARES list that is almost twice as big as the ORCA member list. Our primary goal is to convert the ARES list to e-mail. The only problem is that we have very few e-mail addresses and mostly phone numbers for these folks. This is where you can help. Mark N6RCG is writing a script to call them to see if they are still interested in getting the newsletter and if so, request their e-mail address. If you are interested in calling no more than 10 people, please get a list from Mike KB6MP at the meeting. Any ORCA members who prefers to receive the e-mail version will also be serviced. The choice of whether to receive a paper or electronic copy is entirely up to the ORCA member, since dues entirely covers the hard copy. Responses so far to our request for email distribution will reduce this month's costs by 10%.
